Q: Hello,
I wonder if your wording about the Sage software (1 company licence) means:-
(a) There is just one activation onto one computer?
or
(b) There is only one set of accounts date (for one company) allowed to be processed by the program?
Please clarify.
Thank you.

Ron - Bicester
A: Hi Ron, and thank you for your question.
under the initial licensing of the Sage 50 software this is supplied to be used on a single pc and the ability to keep a single company's data, but it has the capacity to add further company licences as your client base grows.
Organising the additional licenses through Sage can be expensive, but we can offer these at greatly reduced rates, depending on when you request them.
if you, or any other person reading this post, would like to discuss the licensing aspect further please don't hesitate to contact our offices on 0141 248 5200 or 0800 028 1404 and we'd be only too pleased to go through the various options.
kind regards Brian

Q: Hi
I am a UK citizen currently travelling and at the moment I am living in Canada. I will be going back to the UK in 3 months time but wanted to start studying before I got home. Could you tell me is this possible or will I have to wait until I am back in the UK before I can start my studies?
Thanks

Kay - Canada
A: Hi Kay,
Thank you for your question. We have many students studying outside the UK and this would pose us no problems. I could even have a word with the boss & see if I could hand deliver your course work :-)
To dispatch your initial course package there would be a small additional charge so it could be tracked from UK to Canada. If you email me directly at brian@idealschools.co.UK I'll give you an idea of how much this would be. If you could tell me if you intended to spread the cost or not, that'd be helpful.
Alternatively, we could supply you with PDF copies of the courses until you arrived back in UK.
If I can be o fany further help please contact me again.
Kind regards Brian Kind regards

Q: Hi,
I wondered if anyone could give a reasonable opinion regarding the registration with HMRC onto MLR and 'Fit Person' register if they have an old minor conviction.
My question is; Do you think it likely that a registration application would be declined by HMRC if the applicant had a conviction for 'receiving stolen goods' - which is long spent, and happened around 1980?
I wish to learn bookkeeping and set up my own little practice, but don't wish to embark upon this career change if I am unable to comply with HMRC rules.
Thank you.
|
|
Ronald - Midlands
A: Hi Ronald,
Due to the length of time since your conviction I would be confident in saying that this would not hold you back. Studying and qualifying through ICB would take away the need to register via HMRC, but you would need to disclose this to ICB, as you would still register for MLR through them.
If I can be of any further help please get in touch again.
Kind regards Brian

Q: I know this is a widely asked question, but what is the time per module required for study, and the same recommended time scale for the full £1500 package.
Thanks

Kiaran Knight - Northampton
A: Hi Kiaran,
In terms of months/years we see that most student would complete the entire Career Path option in approximately 16-18 months, covering 7, sometimes 8 qualifications. The record time for completion currently stands at just under 5 months and this shows that, because of the nature of distance learning and structure of exams these can be completed very quickly indeed.
If I can be of any further help please don;t hesitate to get in touch again.
Kind regards Brian

Q: Hello, I am now 53, with plenty of time on my hands, and I wondered if, realistically, it is worth while taking your ICB950 course at my age?
Please be frank as I will appreciate an honest reply.
Thank you.

Aron Jones - Oxford
A: Hi Aron,
An interesting question and I'll certainly answer with complete honesty.
As a college, our spread of student is very varied where we have people studying of all ages. Therefore, we can say for certain that there is nothing to stop you completing this type of study. Indeed, in 2011 our student who won the ICB Student of the Year award celebrated his 60th birthday only last year. Age is certainly no barrier.
In terms of career opportunities, we cannot promise anything, but with hard work there is certainly scope to make a more than decent living out of bookkeeping. In this profession that there must be a huge element of trust between the the bookkeeper & client and, as one with lots of life experiences you could offer a level of assurances to prospective clients.
Lets say you take 18 months to complete your studies (could be completed much quicker), his leaves a minimum of 10 years before you reach retirement age. I'm sure it would be nice spending this time being self employed?
In terms of the commitment required for the ICB950 option, this is a decision only you can make. The course package is very comprehensive and would set you up to offer a full bookkeeping & payroll service. However, if you are at all unsure wether you wish to commit to everything why not consider one of the smaller packages, such as ICB750 (associate Membership) or ICB850 (Full Membership - no payroll or self assessment.
If we can be of any further help please don't hesitate to contact us again.
Kind regards Brian

Kind regards Brian

Q: I am also interested in the approx. study time of each module so please can you send me the info that you have sent others. Also, with the sage software, can students get the sage "certification", part one to three?. What percenatge of students who enrol in the career path go on to complete it? Thank You
|
|
Robert - Gwent
A: Hi Robert,
I have emailed you separately with a document detailing the average study times per level.
With regard to Sage Certification, our courses do not offer this. This is only available on courses that offer the 180 day licence software, where we always provide students with fully licensed software, that they can continue to use upon completion of their courses.
I don't have specific numbers, but our drop out rate is very low with the majority of students competing their study within their given time, three years for the career path option. We also offer extension schemes for those who have been unable to complete their study for various reasons such as, pregnancy, those in armed forces and also in cases of illness. The courses will always be available for completion.
I hope you find this information helpful.

Q: Please can you advise the approximate study time for each level? And how long it realistically takes to complete the ICB Career Path?
Thanks,
Anna

Anna - Manchester
A: Hi Anna,
Many thanks for your questions, I hope you find the following helpful.
Individual modules vary in study times from 30-40hrs to 100-120 hrs. I have emailed you separately with a template that outlines the ICB exam structure and average study times per level.
In terms of months/years, on average we see student complete their Career Path study in approximately 18 months. However, the record so far is just over 5 months and this shows that the qualifications can be completed very quickly indeed. Pace of study is completely dictated by you, the student.
If you require any further guidance please don;'t hesitate to get in contact with our offices again, either by email, or by phoning 0800 028 1404 or 0141 248 5200.

Q: Can you tell me what version of Sage 50 Accounts and Sage 50 payroll is issued with this course.
|
|
Sarah Butler - Reading
A: Our computerised bookkeeping materials are currently being upgraded and will be issued with Sage 50 Accounts 2013. The payroll element will run on Sage 50 Payroll 2012 until June next year, where it will then upgrade to the 2013 version.

Q: If I order ICB career path with full payment may I receive all materials together in the beginning not only materials for the first course?
|
|
Laura Noreikiene - London
A: Yes, if you were to pay for your course in full, and requested all study materials and software, we would supply these for you.
Traditionally, we issue the modules in stages as the student progresses and this ensures that the student receives the most up-to-date materials and software available at that time. One important aspect to take note of is that ICB only run the Payroll exam covering two financial years. Exam currently available cover 2011/12 & 2012/13 years. It may be worthwhile us holding onto this section of study until you are in a position to start it to ensure you have software suitable for the exam.
If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to get in touch again.
Kind regards Brian

Q: Upon completion of the above course could you explain how many certificates will be awarded altogether including the Diploma of Small Business Financial Control course? Are we considered fully qualified ICBs? And if so what are titles can we use after our names?
|
|
Amy - London
A: Hi Amy,
Many thanks for your email and I hope that you find the following helpful.
Within the Career Path option, including the Small Business course, you'd receive a total of eight qualifications, including five diploma awards in Manual Bookkeeping, Computerised Bookkeeping, Payroll Management, Self Assessment Taxation and Small Business Financial Control.
These qualifications will enable you to become a Full Member of ICB and, if you go onto practice as a bookkeepers, you can offer a range of services, including bookkeeping, payroll & self assessment.
As a Full Member you can use the letters MICB after your name and this can be extended to also include CB.Dip (for computerised bookkeeping Diploma) and PM.Dip (for Payroll Diploma).
If you have any further questions please don;t hesitate to contact me again via email, or call on 0800 028 1404 or 0141 248 5200.
Kind regards Brian McVean

Q: As soon as I understand difference between this and another (cheaper) ICB career path is only in sage program. Am I right?
How many time after enrollment of this career path I have for my payment if I choose to pay all amount? What would be the final price with all discounts?
|
|
Laura Noreikiene - London
A: Hi Laura,
Thank you for your questions and I hope you find the following helpful.
Yes, we have two versions of the career path (ICB900 & ICB950) with the difference being the software provided for the computerised bookkeeping section of the study.
ICB950 is the more expensive option as it includes Sage 50 Accounts software, which can be used if practising as a bookkeepers for multiple clients. It is supplied with a single company licence but licences can be added as your client base increases.
When registering you are required to pay at least the deposit payment and if you settle the balance within one month you'll receive the FULL payment bonus of the free Small Business Financial Management course & qualification.
If you register between 28th September - 26th October 2012 the costs of the Career Path options are as follows: ICB900 - £1104.15 ICB950 - £1316.65
If I can be of any further help please don't hesitate to contact me again via email or telephone me on 0800 028 1404 or 0141 248 5200.
Kind regards Brian McVean
