Q: I am living in Crete. Where would the nearest axam centre to me be?
|
|
Kerry
A: Hi Kerry,
Currently, the centres registered nearest to Crete are located in Athens, which is obviously not ideal for you. However, with some communication between you, ICB and the exam administrator (Pearson Education) I am 100% certain that a suitable centre could be arranged on Crete.
The attendance at this centre would only be required for manual bookkeeping Level II & III exams, with the rest being either online or emailed to complete from your own home.

Q: Hi
What is the difference between Sage 50 Accounts and Sage Instant Accounts? Which one is better recommended if looking to establish career as a bookkeeper??
|
|
Manpreet - Glasgow
A: Hi Manpreet, The following text is taken from our website and should help to explain the difference: Computerised Bookkeeping & Payroll Course software: We are able to offer you extensive Sage training using FULLY LIcensed versions of Sage's most popular software packages: - Sage Instant Accounts - suitable for business keeping their own accounting records; this software package offers a single company license. The course options including this software offers an affordable introduction to using Sage. The skills you will learn are easily transferrable throughout the entire Sage Accounting software range.
- Sage 50 Accounts - Having the facility to add "multi-company" licenses, this is ideal for those who are planning to offer their own bookkeeping services. Although slightly more expensive, you will receive a fully licensed copy of this software to use professionally on completion of your study.
- Sage 50 Payroll - Having the facility to add "multi-company" licenses, this is ideal for those who are also planning to offer payroll services their clients. You will receive a fully licensed copy of this software to use professionally on completion of your study.
Examinations for the computerised bookkeeping qualifications are downloaded to be completed on the software you have trained on. Final reports are then uploaded to your ICB Membership page to then be assessed by ICB.
The Payroll course is currently posted and then returned to ICB in the same way.
Kind regards Brian

Q: Hi im interested in doing the ICB career path course but would like to start with Payroll. Once completed - the payroll course am i certfied to do peoples payroll whilst I continue to study the bookkeeping modules. Or do i have to complete the entire course before i practise payroll for paying clients?
|
|
alison - dorset
A: Hi Alison,
There is complete flexibility in these course packages and we'd be happy for you to start with the payroll section of the study. I am sure that you'd be able to offer a payroll service upon completion of this qualification but you'd be best served to double check this with ICB directly.
Kind regards Brian

Q: If I enrol on the ICB Career Path, can I take all the exams online?
|
|
Anonymous
A: Within the ICB Career Path there are a series of exams, most of which are completed from home, with only two requiring attendance at a centre.:
Level I Certificate in Basic Bookkeeping - Online exam completed from home. Level II Certificate in Manual Bookkeeping - Centre based exam Level III Diploma in Manual Bookkeeping - centre based exam
(the centre based exams are administered by Pearson Vue, who have approximately 500 centres throughout the UK.)
Level II & III Computerised exams are attempted from home, using the software you've trained on.
Level III Diploma in Self Assessment and Payroll Management are also completed from home.
All examinations are provided on an "on demand" basis and can be completed as soon as the relevant level of study has been completed.

Q: If you do not take external exams, do you get any kind of certificates to prove that you've done the course? If you take the ICB exams how many are there? Do they cover all of the elements covered in the course?
|
|
high wycombe
A: Each course within the Career Path package is specifically designed to prepare students for the final ICB exam, which there are a total of seven. However, if a student does not wish to sit the exams, we can provide our own Certification, but this would not be recognised in the industry. Our advice would be that if you have completed the course work, sit the exam as you will me more than prepared.
The ICB set out a syllabus per level, and students can be tested on any topic within the syllabus. It is highly unlikely that any exam would cover all aspects of the syllabus.

Q: I only have a netbook not a laptop or a home computer. Would I need to get one of these to be able to get the software to complete the course?
|
|
michelle - portsmouth
A: Yes, you can use your netbook. We supply you with the disks, which would include the serial and activation codes. You would then download the software from the Sage website and use the codes supplied to register the software. As long as your netbook has sufficient memory you should be ok (1gb for Instant Account and Sage 50 Payroll, 10gb for Sage 50 Accounts).

Q: I am thinking of taking this course and just wanted to check, once the course is complete would I be able to apply to be a member of the ICB?
|
|
Ruth - Kent
A: Yes, on completion of the Level III manual & computerised bookkeeping sections, you have the qualifications to enable you to become a Member of ICB. You would also have Diploma qualifications in the Payroll and Self Assessment areas, and be able to offer these services to prospective clients.

Q: I am a British Forces wife living in Germany. I am very interested in doing the career path course but have just read some of the exams are taken in a centre? How will I be able to do this. Also how many final exams are there in this course? Many thanks
|
|
Suzanne Bloomfield - Germany
A: The company which administers the ICB Level II & III exams have over 2000 centres worldwide, so I am certain that you'd be able to organise this in Germany. If you do not have one accessible to you then an arrangement could be made if, say the Forces had a training division, for them to be a registered centre. The Level II & III manual examinations that require centre attendance, with the rest being completed from your home. In total, there are seven examinations within the Career Path package, covering four Diploma qualifications (5 if you qualify for the Small Business Financial Management course bonus), each one being arranged directly with ICB.

Q: According to the icb site computerised booking exams can be taken at home if you have the software to take the exam. is your 'fully' licenced sage software suitable and a fully working and printable version like you would buy in the shops or is it for studying only?
Also if it is, does it have to be returned to you at the end of the course?
|
|
kay - leamington spa warwickshire
A: Hi Kay,
The software supplied will allow you to complete the ICB exams (bookkeeping & payroll), printing all necessary reports. There are no restrictions in the software and it is yours to keep on completion of your study.
As you have indicated, this is a fully operational software package, exactly as you'd buy off the shelf.
Kind regards Brian

Q: How much would each of the exam fees cost?
How long would the course last? i.e) Number of hours needed to complete the course?
|
|
Catherine Fell - Cheshire
A: Hi Catherine, The following web link will provide you with up-to-date ICB exam fees. Each fee would be payable at the time of applying for each exam: www.bookkeepers.org.uk/membership/fee%20structureThe following are the average study hours Per Level: Level I - 50hrs Level II - 70hrs Level III - 110hrs Computerised Bookkeeping (Levels II & III) - 50hrs Payroll Management - 90-100hrs Self Assessment - 50hrs Because of the nature of distance learning you would determine the length of time in terms of months/years and we, as your college, would work at your pace. Q: Do you have to take the exams at the icb centre or can you pay a pearson vue centre to take your exams?
|
|
kay - leamington spa,warwickshire
A: Hi Kay,
Most exams are completed from home, and these are arranged directly through ICB. Level II & III manual bookkeeping exams are attempted at one of many Pearson Vue centres, and the ICB would provide you with full details on how to arrange these exams.
The arranging of exams is very straight forward and helps to make working through the qualifications as stress free as possible.
Please get in touch again if you require further guidance.

Q: if i enroll and pass the course will i be quallified to provide bookkeeping services as self employed bookkeeper or as part of a company.
|
|
paul - perth
A: Hi Paul,
Many thanks for your question.
The ICB range of courses are designed to prepare you for a bookkeeping career, either on a self employed basis or within an organisation. If you have an ambition to be self employed as a bookkeepers the ICB have a full service to help you achieve this.
As part of the Career Path package you'll also cover Payroll & Self Assessment, which would be additional services that you could offer potential clients.
I hope you find this information helpful.
Kind regards Brian McVean

|
Q: Are the exam fees included in the price?
|
|
Mike Harris - Oxford, UK
A: The final exam fees are not included within any of our ICB course options. These would be your only additional cost and payable direct to ICB at the time of applying for each exam.
The nature of the exams mean that you can attempt them at any time of the year. Therefore, we believe it suits best that the students organise these at times when it suits them.
I hope this answers your question sufficiently.
Kind regards Brian McVean
|
|
Q: Could you clarify which qualifications you would get once completing the full career path. Presumably MICB & PM.Dip but what about the computerised & self assessment parts?
And are exam fees included?
|
|
Jenna Kearn - Surrey
A: Within the career path option you'll be prepared for 4 diploma qualifications: manual bookkeeping, computerised bookkeeping, payroll management & self assessment. On top of this, if you take advantage of the full payment bonus, you'll receive tuition toward the Small Business Financial Control diploma.
Exam fees are not included and these would be payable direct to ICB at the time of applying for each. Hence, costs are spread throughout the entire course of study.
Regards Brian
